{"id":20767,"date":"2015-10-14T21:15:40","date_gmt":"2015-10-14T21:15:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aecom.com\/benelux\/projects\/chrysler-assembly-plant-decommissioning\/"},"modified":"2018-06-06T02:36:28","modified_gmt":"2018-06-06T06:36:28","slug":"chrysler-assembly-plant-decommissioning","status":"publish","type":"project","link":"https:\/\/aecom.com\/benelux\/projects\/chrysler-assembly-plant-decommissioning\/","title":{"rendered":"Chrysler Assembly Plant Decommissioning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"editor-p\">For the University of Delaware, AECOM\u00a0managed the decommissioning and closure of the former 3.4-million-square-foot Newark Chrysler Assembly Plant that was located adjacent to the university\u2019s Newark campus. The project set the stage for development of a new research and technology campus on the 272-acre site\u2014the largest-ever expansion of the campus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"editor-p\">The former Chrysler site, purchased by the university in 2009, had been a landmark in the state since it opened by the automaker in the 1930s as a spare parts depot. Beginning in the 1950s, military tanks and ultimately autos were assembled at the facility. Chrysler closed the plant in 2008.<\/p>\n<p class=\"editor-p\">AECOM\u00a0was responsible for the decommissioning and cleaning process equipment and associated structures; removing asbestos-containing materials; demolition of site buildings; and removal, recycling and disposal of building material.
