Our\u00a0People Spotlight<\/em><\/a>\u00a0series gives you an inside look at our technical experts around the world. This week, we are highlighting a leader from our aviation business\u00a0who will share insight into his career journey and perspective on aviation architecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clint\u00a0Laaser\u00a0brings a proven\u00a0track record\u00a0of over 20 years in the industry, most recently serving as\u00a0global\u00a0aviation\u00a0planning and\u00a0strategic\u00a0advisory\u00a0lead. In his new role\u00a0as U.S.\u00a0aviation\u00a0architecture\u00a0lead,\u00a0Clint\u00a0is dedicated to\u00a0growing\u00a0our aviation architecture\u00a0and building engineering\u00a0practice\u00a0and serving clients across the United States.\u00a0With a background spanning architecture, terminal planning and advisory, Clint brings a unique ability to connect planning,\u00a0design\u00a0and stakeholder collaboration to deliver impactful airport projects.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What inspired you to join the industry?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My love for buildings and planning started\u00a0when I was young, and I always knew\u00a0I wanted to go to architecture school.\u00a0Upon graduation I worked on a variety of residential,\u00a0commercial\u00a0and transportation\u00a0projects,\u00a0but\u00a0I realized it was the large public\u00a0facilities\u00a0and the dynamics that go into them\u00a0that fueled my passion.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n I remain motivated by bringing people together, connecting ideas and shaping environments that serve the public. <\/p>\n

That\u00a0realization\u00a0led me to my first aviation project: a\u00a0new\u00a0airport\u00a0terminal\u00a0in\u00a0Wichita,\u00a0Kansas. I was deeply involved\u00a0from\u00a0the first stages of\u00a0master planning through design and ribbon cutting.\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0grateful for that experience\u00a0because\u00a0it allowed me to work\u00a0closely with a client throughout the\u00a0full\u00a0project\u00a0lifecycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I discovered that I really enjoy the upfront planning and consensus-building stages of the design process.\u00a0I\u00a0remain\u00a0motivated by\u00a0bringing people together, connecting ideas and shaping\u00a0environments that serve the public.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is your favorite AECOM project that\u00a0you\u2019ve\u00a0worked\u00a0on\u00a0and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elevate CVG is a design-build\u00a0program\u00a0at Cincinnati\/Northern Kentucky International Airport\u00a0led by AECOM Hunt that brings together multiple AECOM business lines\u00a0\u2014\u00a0including Transportation and Buildings + Places\u00a0\u2014\u00a0to create a cohesive vision. The program includes renovations to the terminal,\u00a0concourses\u00a0and a pedestrian tunnel.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0a large, complex effort involving significant collaboration.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n The Elevate CVG program reflects my favorite parts of aviation work: storytelling, consensus building and connecting people to deliver a strong outcome. <\/p>\n

My role involved shaping the pursuit strategy and I\u2019m continuing to support the project through delivery. I\u2019ve contributed to the planning and design, aligning teams and adapting the design as project leadership and priorities evolved.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tell us a story of how your work positively impacted the community.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Positive community impacts\u00a0start\u00a0with understanding your client and the people they serve.\u00a0You need to learn\u00a0what\u2019s\u00a0important to them and\u00a0approach\u00a0the project as a local\u00a0\u2014 even\u00a0if\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0not.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airports are gateways to their communities, so designs should reflect their culture, history and identity. We\u2019ve accomplished this across projects of all sizes \u2014 from Boston Logan Terminal E, where the layout and signature \u201cBoston Red\u201d roof reflect the city\u2019s spirit of innovation, to the North Concourse at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, which draws on the Pacific Northwest through warm wood, natural light and river-inspired forms. At Presque Isle International Airport in Maine, a simpler design uses regional materials and familiar building forms to create a strong local connection.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each of these projects\u00a0demonstrates\u00a0how a sense of place can be thoughtfully scaled to reflect the communities they\u00a0represent.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you have a chance to try a different role, project or area of focus, take the leap! Stretching yourself is where you learn the most, even if it feels uncomfortable at first.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s also important to build relationships along the way. You never know who you\u2019ll work with in the future or how those connections will shape your career. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
