Situated in Dwarka, 11 kilometres from New Delhi\u2019s Indira Gandhi International Airport, the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC)<\/a> is the first of its kind in the region \u2013 and the largest in Asia.\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officially opened in September 2023, this world-class facility (also known as Yashobhoomi) will put India on the map as a prime destination for hosting prestigious, multilateral events from conferences to cultural shows. In 2025, the venue was recognised on the global stage, winning the International Architecture Award 2024<\/a> in the \u201cCivic Centre\u201d category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comprising a total of two million square metres, the IICC has 370,000 square metres of exhibition and convention space and 660,000 square metres of mixed-use development. This includes a 20,000 plus capacity arena and a plenary hall fit to accommodate 6,000 people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Served by a dedicated high-speed airport express line, the complex is easily accessible to local and international visitors alike.\u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What was AECOM\u2019s role on the IICC? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As the appointed project management consultants, we were tasked with guiding this development from inception through to delivery. This involved supporting the client at each stage of the mega project \u2013 from site selection to master planning and construction management.\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using Building Information Modelling (BIM), our teams applied a holistic approach to planning and design, harnessing expertise across disciplines to ensure the highest standards were upheld.\u202f\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safety and convenience are embedded into the design itself. This includes high-level surveillance, such as secure tunnels for VVIPs, a robust ICT system and event security.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are proud to have received multiple awards for our safety management on this project, including the Sword of Honour from the British Safety Council and the prestigious RoSPA Gold Award. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sustainable architecture at scale <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The IICC has been designed and built to meet the Platinum rating criteria from the Indian Green Building Council \u2013 currently the highest available rating.\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The complex has many innovative sustainable design elements such as a central district cooling system, an automated pneumatic waste collection and disposal system, green roofs, and rainwater harvesting.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The resulting energy savings from these features will not only benefit the economy, but also help safeguard the environment by reducing the overall carbon footprint.\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A collaborative global approach <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Collaboration has been central to the success of this project \u2013 with 200 professionals and 11 business lines in three geographies across AECOM working together to ensure smooth delivery.\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now complete, the IICC is the India\u2019s largest trade fair complex and promises to be a foremost venue for conventions and exhibitions.
