Winnipeg’s ageing Fort Rouge Garage needed updating and expanding to meet the needs of the transit system. Working under a design-build model, AECOM provided detailed design and contract administration services for a new 6,000 square-metre LEED-certified bus garage expansion and the extensive renovation of a 1,300 square-metre area in the existing bus garage facility.

AECOM provided detailed design services including architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, landscape, and process systems as well as contract administration services during construction. We were also tasked with ensuring the project was able to achieve LEED® Silver Certification – this was achieved through the heat recovery ventilators and enhanced ventilation rates above ASHRAE recommended levels.

The transit garage operates 24 hours/day, seven days/week, so phasing and sequencing of work was always coordinated to minimize impact of construction to existing operations and maintain safety.

The facility is complete and is key to meeting the current and future needs of the city’s transit system.
