This project assessed the safety, comfort and efficiency of the forecast people movements within the school by using people flow analyses and modelling techniques.

Pinch points and areas of potential congestion were highlighted using outputs such as:

  • Mean density maps
  • High density maps where areas of high density occurred for long periods of time
  • Space utilisation maps
  • Videos of pedestrian movements within the school.

Results were presented to the architects with recommendations and suggested design changes which showed improvements in pedestrian flows to a level that was acceptable for this type of development.
