With a focus on maintaining safety excellence, AECOM and its employees participate in and lead a number of initiatives that reinforce the importance of safety among our employees, peers and subcontractors.<\/p>\n

For example, AECOM\u2019s stop work authority encourages employees to stop all AECOM-directed work if they believe there is an imminent safety, health or environmental risk that will affect them, their co-workers, the public or the environment.<\/p>\n

Ensuring that employees have the proper tools and training to safely carry out projects is also key to maintaining a safe culture. The Board of Certified Safety Professionals administers the Safety Trained Supervisor Certification Initiative, and AECOM now has more safety-trained supervisors than many other companies in the world. The certification provides a means for AECOM to instill and verify the safety and health knowledge of first-line supervisors, managers, and other employees with safety responsibilities.<\/p>\n

AECOM is also a Campbell Institute Charter Member working alongside top organizations that focus on integrating safety into their business models, as well as a member of the U.S. Occupational Safety Health Administration\u2019s (OSHA) Alliance program where participants are committed to working closely with OSHA to develop and share information with workers and employers to help prevent injuries, illnesses, and fatalities in the workplace.<\/p>\n

Voluntary Protection Programs<\/span><\/h3>\n

\"vpp_voluntary_protection_programs\"In the United States, AECOM has been recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for its industry-leading safety management programs. OSHA\u2019s Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) recognizes employers who have implemented effective safety and health management systems and maintain injury and illness rates below national Bureau of Labor Statistics averages for their respective industries.<\/p>\n

Several of the company\u2019s projects, facilities and offices have garnered and maintained VPP Star status as a result of exceptional safety performance. The most recent achievements include the East Tennessee Technology Park project in Tennessee, United States, as well as the company\u2019s Pueblo chemical agent-destruction pilot plant project in Colorado, United States.<\/p>\n
