Barcelona’s Airport – El Prat, represents nowadays a worldwide reference and a key asset for the future of the region.

Plan Barcelona was a top priority for the regional government, due to the increase in tourism visitors to the city of Barcelona. With a total invested amount of EUR 3,500 million, it aimed to expand Barcelona Airport – El Prat, providing infrastructure, technology systems, facilities and services that can meet expected 55,000,000 annual passengers demand safely, fluid and efficiently.

Services carried out by AECOM Spain consisted in the coordination and integration of the various projects that make up the Plan Barcelona, covering the preparation of preliminary studies and planning, project leading and management, project and works supervision, works planning and monitoring, cost and deadlines control, and other technical advisory work.

The whole Plan included more than 100 projects, being the most important actions: New 2,660 m runway and taxiways (more than 12,000 m), new control tower and air traffic control centre, as well as the expansion of the existing aprons (over 120 ha). Terminal buildings, accesses and landside for which program management was completed comprise a new 545,000 sqm terminal building, the expansion of 51,900 sqm in existing terminal building, two new multimodal railway and metro stations and eight new parking buildings.

Services provided also cover the implementation of the airport environmental management system (certified to ISO 14001).
