Chromium, a naturally-occurring heavy metal, is often used in industrial processes but can seep into groundwater and soils, causing potential harm to humans and the environment. Working with one of our industrial clients in Asti, Italy, we safely remediated chromium-contaminated soil at their chromium-plating plant. This involved detecting and then isolating the contamination by creating a 12-metre-deep impermeable barrier with a waterproofing capping around the building to contain the soil before excavation, reducing the risk of further contamination for the client.
