As part of Caltrans’ initiative to provide long life pavement rehabilitation through the 710 Freeway corridor, AECOM (legacy Shimmick Construction), in a joint venture, is replacing over 34 lane miles of existing pavement with new pavement. This is the largest precast pre-stressed concrete pavement project in the nation.
The new pavement will consist of the following pavement types:
- Jointed plain Concrete Pavement
- Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement (Rapid Setting Concrete)
- Precast Prestressed Concrete Pavement
Along with this long-life pavement rehabilitation, this project is widening the 710 corridor to improve the safety shoulders throughout the limits of the projects; seven existing bridges are being widened and one new bridge is being constructed. Additionally, improvements to the existing concrete median barrier and the metal beam guard rail are being made. Construction will be completed in 2018.
