KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. (April 13, 2018) — AECOM, a premier, fully integrated global infrastructure firm, announced today that Larry Ostarly, senior vice president of operations and program manager in its Management Services group, has received the Dr. Kurt H. Debus Award from the National Space Club – Florida Committee for  “significant achievements and contributions made in Florida to American aerospace efforts.” The National Space Club is devoted to fostering excellence in space activity through interaction between industry and government, and through a continuing program of educational support. The award is named for the Kennedy Space Center’s (KSC) first director, Dr. Kurt H. Debus.

“Larry represents the best of AECOM and this honor validates the trust and confidence placed in him as we live our values in service to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center and its community of professionals,” said Randy Wotring, AECOM’s chief operating officer. “He empowers other leaders by prioritizing safety, ethics and quality in the work performed to support Kennedy colleagues as the world’s leaders in aerospace science, operations, research and education.”

“Larry is a leader of the highest caliber and is recognized as such by all who work with him,” said NASA KSC Director Robert D. Cabana. “His significant achievements are many, but one of the most noteworthy was leading the Columbia recovery efforts for United Space Alliance in Texas. During his time leading the AECOM team on the Institutional Services Contract (ISC), he played a significant role in helping to establish KSC as a multiuser spaceport and in transitioning to a firm fixed price contract.”

Mr. Ostarly leads AECOM’s work of performing facilities operations and maintenance for engineering, life support, logistics, transportation and laboratory management at KSC. As a leader in AECOM’s Management Services group, he oversees a large workforce of experts who ensure the multiuse spaceport mission requirements are upheld for NASA.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Ostarly held various roles supporting NASA prior to joining AECOM. He oversaw shuttle processing teams, test conductors and the transfer of processing operations. In 2003, he helped lead recovery efforts over 2,400 square miles for debris from the Space Shuttle Columbia. The Debus Award is the latest of many awards and commendations Mr. Ostarly has received for outstanding service.
