AECOM announced today that it has been awarded a US$110-million prime contract for the South Sudan Viable Support to Transition and Stability (VISTAS) program by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).<\/p>\n
The program builds on AECOM\u2019s South Sudan Transition and Conflict Mitigation program, which began in 2009 and supported political and peace processes leading up to, and following, South Sudan\u2019s 2011 independence from the Republic of Sudan.<\/p>\n
VISTAS is designed to strengthen citizens\u2019 confidence and capacity to address the causes and consequences of political conflict, violence and instability. \u00a0AECOM will provide USAID with creative and flexible citizen-driven solutions that build government capacity to prevent, respond to and mitigate conflict; facilitate citizen participation in political and peace processes; and engage youth and other vulnerable groups in productive social and economic activities. \u00a0Using small, in-kind grants, VISTAS will support the efforts of local, regional and international stakeholders working to achieve these objectives.<\/p>\n
