AECOM’s planning and consulting experts began working on the Rail Baltica Global Project in 2010. The goal of this major infrastructure project is to integrate the Baltics into the European rail network.

Our first service was conducting a feasibility study for the ministries of transport from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. This work involved investigating and delivering a business case for reintroducing European standard gauge railway into the Baltics.

We participated in numerous other related projects, including creating the framework for the delivery infrastructure. Our planning and consulting specialists also helped submit applications for grants and funding. Among others, this secured €500 million towards establishing the implementing body, RB Rail.

AECOM’s further services included developing an optimum engineering and urban building solution for Riga central multimodal public transportation hub.  We also delivered an operation plan and engineering solutions for an intermodal freight logistics terminal in Latvia. Further, our experts assisted the Lithuanian government in environmental impact statements and spatial plans of the entire corridor from Kaunas to the Latvian border.

In 2018 RB Rail selected AECOM’s teams in Spain, UK and Latvia to develop the detailed Building Information Modelling (BIM) strategy for the project. Our teams’ task was to detail BIM delivery workflows and standardise the content of the information to create a Common Data Environment, asset management, education and training materials. We also provided a BIM data-driven methodology for the lifecycle of the project’s infrastructure and consultancy support.
