When completed, the Amur Railway Bridge, also known as the Nizhneleninskoye-Tongjiang railway bridge, will play a vital role in creating greater opportunities to increase the flow of goods between Russia and China.

The 2.5-kilometre bridge will connect the Jewish Autonomous Region in Russia’s Far East with China’s Heilongjiang Province, and enhance Russia’s connectivity with China, Central Europe, and Central Asia.

As the technical consultant for the Russian side of the project, AECOM was responsible for tender management and technical due diligence, which included the analysis of the design, construction and operation risks. In addition to the bridge itself, the project includes the construction of 5 kilometers of railway tracks and two train stations to connect with the rail networks in both countries.

Based directly onsite, our Russian team is supervising construction activities and ensuring the synchronization of construction processes with Chinese partners until the bridge is commissioned and opened to traffic. Russian builders are raising a bridge in the difficult conditions of the Amur River, where only the base of the foundation is located more than 80 meters from the surface.

According to predictions, more than 10 million tonnes of goods will cross the rail bridge a year.
