Distribution and logistics specialist Prologis wants to keep goods moving around the UK in a sustainable, cost-effective way. By turning Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal into a major UK hub, it will increase capacity to around 32 freight trains a day and over 500,000 freight containers a year, reducing carbon emissions through efficiencies of scale.
Working closely with Prologis, AECOM has developed a sustainable earthworks solution involving the improvement and reuse of 250,000 cubic metres of site-won materials to create high-performance engineered platforms and an intermodal transfer slab on a new nine-metre high embankment. We carried out detailed geotechnical design from conception through to construction and handover.
