SHANGHAI (Nov. 5, 2018) — AECOM, a premier, fully integrated global infrastructure firm, announced its participation in the inaugural China International Import Expo (CIIE). With the theme of New Era, Shared Future, the CIIE is hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai from November 5-10, 2018.
Under the theme of Transforming Our Urban Future Together, AECOM’s booth, which is located in the service trade exhibition area (Hall 1: 1C3-005), addresses a shared future of accelerating urbanization around the world and particularly in China. It has been estimated by the United Nations that by the year 2050, two-thirds of the world’s population will be living in cities. In China, the forecast is even higher at 80 percent with an estimated additional 255 million people.
“As a result of continuous advances in physical and digital infrastructure, our shared future is not only urban, but also increasingly connected and borderless,” said Sean Chiao, president, Asia Pacific, AECOM. “The evolving landscape presents huge potential for a better world to benefit everyone going forward. However, we will only achieve this with a holistic approach by all stakeholders involved in urban policymaking, planning, design and delivery. The highest levels of collaboration and innovation are critical now in order to meet growing demands in the coming decades.”
“At the same time that China is addressing its own urbanization, it is also playing a role in enabling urban development and critical infrastructure around the world. As a strategic partner to Chinese state-owned enterprises and private enterprises, AECOM is helping to deliver a diverse range of projects along and beyond the Belt and Road, including roads, rail, bridges, water utilities, airports and sea ports,” said Ian Chung, chief executive, Greater China, AECOM.
Occupying approximately 200 square meters, AECOM’s booth provides visitors with the opportunity to learn about innovative and integrated approaches for designing and delivering a better built environment. A selection of projects shared through various media provides real examples of key concepts for future urbanization put forward in AECOM’s book, “Jigsaw City,” which was launched in China in May 2018. On November 8, visitors interested in theme park
projects can visit the booth to get a briefing on the “2018 China Theme Park Pipeline Report,” which will be issued that day. The booth will also give visitors firsthand experience with some of the latest virtual reality technologies being deployed by AECOM. In addition to the activities at the booth, AECOM is speaking at CIIE side sessions, including the U.S. China Business Council Conference where we plan to share the concept of Infrastructure Oriented Development.
