AECOM announced today that it has been awarded a US$110-million prime contract for the South Sudan Viable Support to Transition and Stability (VISTAS) program by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
The program builds on AECOM’s South Sudan Transition and Conflict Mitigation program, which began in 2009 and supported political and peace processes leading up to, and following, South Sudan’s 2011 independence from the Republic of Sudan.
VISTAS is designed to strengthen citizens’ confidence and capacity to address the causes and consequences of political conflict, violence and instability. AECOM will provide USAID with creative and flexible citizen-driven solutions that build government capacity to prevent, respond to and mitigate conflict; facilitate citizen participation in political and peace processes; and engage youth and other vulnerable groups in productive social and economic activities. Using small, in-kind grants, VISTAS will support the efforts of local, regional and international stakeholders working to achieve these objectives.
“AECOM’s previous conflict-mitigation experience on various USAID-funded programs in the area since 2007 positions us well to make the VISTAS program a success,” said AECOM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John M. Dionisio. “We are excited by the opportunity to help create further stability for the people of South Sudan.”
VISTAS will be carried out over a five-year period of performance.
