AECOM recently won First Prize in the Urban Design category at the 14th Annual Shenzhen Planning and Design Awards for its contribution to the development of Shenzhen’s Longgang District. Working in collaboration with the China Academy of Urban Planning & Design, a team of designers from the Shenzhen and Hong Kong offices adopted an innovative macro-planning approach for the development framework of the 844-square-kilometer district. Actionable urban design guidelines were also developed for this project, which in turn will be used to instruct the city’s statutory planning procedures.
“This recognition from Shenzhen’s Planning and Land Resource Department is obviously very gratifying and is indicative of the high quality, distinctiveness and relevance of AECOM’s urban design work in Asia. This is the first time that an urban design study of this scale was ever conducted in Shenzhen and we feel privileged to have had the opportunity to collaborate with such a supportive and committed client,” said LenRen Lee, Principal and Regional Director of Masterplanning, Asia.
Project scope covered a variety of study areas, including the public realm, ecological environment, urban townscape, architecture space, public transportation as well as other considerations.
