The regeneration of Cardiff Bay is now widely regarded as one of the most successful regeneration projects in the UK. Historically Cardiff Bay has played a major part in Cardiff’s development by being the means of exporting coal from the South Wales Valleys to the rest of the world, helping to power the industrial age.
Over time this economic area became contaminated by industrial pollutants and large tips of domestic waste. AECOM, since 2010 acted as cost consultants and our work included providing an independent review of the client Associated British Ports estimate and giving an indication of the inherent risks.
AECOM involvement continues and in collaboration with the client, further developments have included: The Cardiff Bay Barrage, The Bute Town Link-bridge and cut / cover tunnel and approximately 500,000 square feet of office developments. We are gratified to have played a part in returning this key site back to the community and city of Cardiff to play its part in the future of Wales well into the 21st century.
