Under the first contract, which is valued at approximately US$49 million and part of the Yorkshire Water\u2019s large schemes framework, the company will upgrade the water treatment process. \u00a0This includes new inlet works, new and refurbished primary tanks, and aeration lanes to ensure that Blackburn Meadows meets the requirements of the European Union\u2019s Freshwater Fish Directive.<\/p>\n
For the second contract, valued at approximately US$29 million, the AECOM team will provide a new mesophilic anaerobic digestion plant. \u00a0This project will treat all sludge from Blackburn Meadows and the surrounding wastewater treatment works. \u00a0The plant will be designed to treat up to 21,000 tons of dry solid sludge annually, including thickening and dewatering processes, as well as minimizing Yorkshire Water\u2019s carbon footprint by producing renewable energy via a combined heat and power system.<\/p>\n
