AECOM is responsible for the mechanical engineering, which includes Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), heat-cool, plumbing and fire protection, as well as the electrical engineering, which includes regular power, emergency power, lighting, life safety and IT infrastructure for the approximately US$1.4-billion project. The expansion includes five levels totaling approximately 1.5 million square feet and is completely modeled in Revit BIM software using 30 different Revit models. <\/p>\n

A total of 22 new aircraft gates, approximately 600 geothermal wells and 410 miles (660 kilometers) of in-floor radiant heat\/cool tubing will be installed at the airport as well as 4,300 feet (1,300 meters) of duct bank and 32,000 feet (10 kilometers) of cable tray.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur mechanical team is working to incorporate HVAC and geothermal elements into a BIM model while our electrical team is developing lighting, power, cable tray and duct bank modeling,\u201d said Chris Himsl, project manager for AECOM\u2019s Design + Planning practice, North America. \u201cTogether, we\u2019re collaborating with the architectural and structural consultants to combine all the elements into a single BIM model.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe International Facilities Project at YYC is a great example of AECOM\u2019s continuous integration of technology software programs to offer solutions that add value for our clients\u2019 projects,\u201d said Jim Walsh, AECOM senior vice president and chief technology officer.<\/p>\n
