SINGAPORE (July 12, 2016) \u2014 AECOM, a premier, fully integrated global infrastructure firm, announced today that it is serving as a Founding Sponsor for the biennial Singapore International Water Week (SIWW), taking place July 10-14. This follows a similar role the company held at the prior SIWW in 2014.<\/p>\n

Leading the AECOM delegation are Michael S. Burke, chairman and CEO, who is a scheduled panelist in a CNBC-led discussion on \u201cThe Future of the World\u2019s Water: A Business Perspective,\u2019\u2019 and Sean Chiao, Asia Pacific president, who is moderating the Water Leaders Insight Session on \u201cRaising the Water Agenda for Cities\u201d. AECOM\u2019s subject matter experts in water, sustainability and resilience from the US, Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore also are participating as panelists and speakers in 12 sessions of the Water Convention, as well as one session at the World Cities Summit and one at the Clean Enviro Summit Singapore \u2014 which are taking place concurrently in Singapore. They will be addressing challenges and solutions to build cities\u2019 water resilience from water supply to wastewater management, systems to prevent flood and drought.<\/p>\n

At the Water Convention, seven AECOM reports on trending issues are being shared by the authors for discussion at related sessions, ranging from research on more macro water and live-ability drivers to insights sharing from specific AECOM projects such as Phase 2 of Singapore\u2019s Deep Tunnel Sewerage System and soil bioengineering for the Kallang naturalized waterway project.<\/p>\n

\u201cClosing the infrastructure gap, and improving access to clean drinking water in many parts of the world, requires government, communities, businesses and water providers to come together to rethink how they plan for, invest and maintain water infrastructure,\u2019\u2019 Burke said. \u201cAdvancing innovative solutions to these problems in context with other pressing needs posed by climate change and urbanization is core to the support AECOM provides to cities around the world.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Chiao said AECOM\u2019s involvement in SIWW extends the company\u2019s ongoing efforts in engaging key players in the public, private and education sectors, as well as challenging new generations of designers, planners and engineers on reimagining how cities in Asia Pacific can build resiliency, and meet the challenges of sustainability and enhanced quality of life.<\/p>\n

\u201cAsia is home to some of the world\u2019s largest and newest cities,\u201d said Chiao. \u201cThere is an opportunity as well as a critical need for all who play a part in delivering the interdependent elements of a city, including water resources, to ensure these work together effectively, like a jigsaw \u2014 and nowhere more so is this true than in Asia, where urbanization is driving rapid population growth in major cities.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
