The San Antonio Military Medical Center renovation was a 358,000 square-foot renovation to the existing Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) and a 783,000 square-foot, seven story bed tower addition with a helipad, four-story ancillary care center and three-story clinic. AECOM Hunt’s work on the project also included a 1,700,000 square-foot, 5,000-car parking garage and a 33,000 square-foot central plant.
The renovation work at BAMC was bid in five work packages and included over 82 individual areas being renovated, ranging in size from 1,000 to 45,000 square-feet. The work involved continuous communication and coordination of Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) and Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA) with BAMC and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to avoid any disruptions to the medical operations. The renovations touched all departments including Surgery, Sterile Processing, Neurology, Orthopedics, Imaging, Emergency Services, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Pathology and Women’s Services.
