AECOM as lead designer and lead contractor, in partnership with Shimmick, was responsible for the overall design and construction of the Los Angeles Metro Gold Line light rail system six miles eastward, connecting downtown Los Angeles with East Los Angeles.

The design-build project entailed a six-mile long extension in densely populated area; 1.8-mile 21-foot-diameter twin tunnels; two underground stations; six above-ground stations; an overhead catenary system; systems, communication, PTS, electrification; and the construction of bridges built over SR-101, the Los Angeles River and I-710.

The project was completed in 2009.
