Home to the largest Titanic exhibition in the world, AECOM has been responsible for powering and heating the exhibition and exporting electrical and thermal energy to adjacent properties, as part of a district heating and energy programme.
Titanic Belfast is a monumental development – the main exhibition space is 11,000 square metres. The complex is the cornerstone of one of Europe’s largest waterfront redevelopment projects, and the most significant regeneration scheme in Northern Ireland’s history.
It features a complex geometric design influenced by ice crystals, ships’ hulls and the insignia of the White Star Line, the original owners of the Titanic. The building’s striking façade leans out at angles of up to 25 degrees and is adorned with 3,000 asymmetrical silver-anodized aluminium shards, angled to reflect the light.
Achieving a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’, this outstanding project, which took just three years to complete, has been designed with sustainability in mind, with renewable and low energy systems used where possible.
