AECOM was retained by Marshall University to develop a holistic approach to evaluating and recommending facility improvements for its athletic department. The overall goal of the project is to improve facilities for student athletes, allowing the university to keep up with the trends that exist within collegiate athletics across the country.
The scope of our work included initial planning and budgeting efforts as part of an integrated facility improvement plan for the university and the Department of Athletics, and subsequently extended to the design of each of the recommended facilities.
Improvements are focused on enhancing sports medicine and establishing both academic and athletic centers of excellence. Planned projects include a soccer stadium complex, indoor practice facility with a NCAA-approved track, a sports medicine translational research center and a student-athlete academic center, in addition to a hall of fame. Construction of the first phase of the project – the new soccer complex – commenced in late 2012.
