AECOM delivered an environmental impact assessment for the construction of a major overhead power transmission line from the city of Elk in central Poland to Alytus, situated on the Lithuania-Poland border.
The 400kV power line, known as the LitPol Link, aims to integrate the power grid of three Baltic countries—Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia—with the rest of Eastern Europe. Approximately 50 kilometres of the 163 kilometre power link will be in Lithuania, with the remaining 112 kilometres in Poland.
The main objective of AECOM’s work was to analyse the impact that construction of the power line could have on the environment, as well as the health and safety of nearby communities. The work was delivered to PSE (Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne) S.A., a state-owned transmission system operator in Poland. PSE is working in partnership with Lithuanian transmission system operator Litgrid on the project.
