The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (APEGBC) honored its 2012 President’s and Project Awards Recipients in Victoria, British Columbia on October 26 – 27, 2012. AECOM received accolades from the Association at the Annual Conference by receiving their Sustainability award for the Wastewater Treatment and Disposal Systems Upgrade for the City of Cranbrook, British Columbia. APEGBC’s Sustainability Award recognizes a project that demonstrates a commitment to, and understanding of, the concept of sustainability.
The City of Cranbrook had an urgent need to address identified and potentially significant environmental risk associated with its sewage treatment infrastructure as well as maintaining critical infrastructure in order to meet the demands of rapid growing community. The City and AECOM formed a partnership to overcome these challenges.
The project work involved improving treated wastewater quality, building capacity for the next 25 years of growth, replacing failing infrastructure with high efficiency systems that limit environmental damage, preserving archeological sites, and maintaining and improving the sustainability features of the systems within approved budget.
The project also won the Federation of Municipalities Sustainability Award last February 2012.
“It was a great accomplishment to receive these awards,” said Shawn Pillai, senior project manager.
