AECOM was selected to provide planning, route selection, design and construction management for a railway to transport iron ore from the Bloom Lake Mine in Labrador to the shipping port of Pointe-Noir, Quebec, Canada. The project included 55 kilometres of new track, two marshalling yards and the operations analysis of more than 500 kilometres of existing line.
This project was successfully delivered in an accelerated timeframe of nine months with the majority of the railway, which included five major river crossings, constructed in extreme winter weather conditions of minus 50 degrees Celsius.
