AECOM’s work on E10 highway in Sweden involved the road design and inter-disciplinary coordination of the E10 from Avvakko to Lappeasuando, an important 18km section of road high above the Arctic Circle linking the country to Norway.

AECOM used Building Information Modelling (BIM) software to create a design that engineers will use to widen the road and an existing bridge, and build a new bridge for pedestrians and cyclists.

In addition to improving the road’s visibility and safety for freight and local traffic, and local people, the design includes two new big underpasses to allow wild animals to pass undisturbed.

The AECOM team responsible for the project was one of three finalists in the BIM Advancements in Roads category in the 2017 Be Inspired Awards, which recognise extraordinary software solutions for infrastructure design, construction, and operations.
