AECOM undertook the master planning of a new, highly automated container facility on a 130-acre greenfield site at the port of Rotterdam.
Called the Euromax Terminal Rotterdam, it’s one of the most advanced and environmentally friendly container terminals in the world. Designed for fast, safe and efficient handling of large container ships, its terminal cranes reach 23-containers wide.
The terminal features a full suite of buildings, including administration and maintenance, an on-terminal rail yard. It also connects with other terminals via a dedicated roadway for multi-trailer trains.
AECOM planning and consulting experts performed a detailed analysis to ensure balance between the wharf and cubic-yard capacity. We also conducted a detailed terminal simulation analysis to evaluate various crane configurations and width. These compared options such as bridge cranes, straddle carriers and automated stacking cranes.
