Good Samaritan Hospital’s vision and priorities for the BEACON project, which stand for “Building Excellence Around Communities, Opportunities & Needs,” included an expansion and enhancement of its inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs.
The largest single project in the 104-year history of Good Samaritan Hospital, AECOM Hunt served as construction manager for this complex hospital addition including a new cardiac center, energy plant, and support services buildings totaling 201,700 square feet. In addition, the project encompassed 118,862 square feet of phased renovation of key healthcare service areas.
One of the largest challenges was keeping the facility operational throughout all phases of construction. The site utilities, site parking and traffic circulation was of utmost importance in maintaining a great relationship with the local community. This required careful planning to accommodate that challenge. Thus, BIM was utilized to give valuable insight to phasing and logistics before construction and renovation began.
