The Texas Department of Transportation selected AECOM to prepare the Environmental Impact Statement, developing the schematic and conducting the public involvement program for the $300 million replacement of the Harbor Bridge along US 181 in Corpus Christi, Texas. The bridge spans the Corpus Christi Ship Channel and connects the town of Portland to downtown Corpus Christi and other key parts of the city. Previously, AECOM completed the feasibility study for the project.

The existing structure has served as an icon for the city for many years, so special attention will be paid to the visual development of the new structure. Among the key features of the replacement bridge is an increased span length and vertical clearance to accommodate future port needs. The project also involves the preliminary design of a five-level interchange on the south side of the ship channel crossing and another major interchange.
