Children and families in Brisbane now have access to a new standard in care.
The newly-opened Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital brings together the Royal and Mater Children’s Hospitals, forming a central health service for Brisbane’s children.
Designed with families in mind, it features rooftop gardens and facilities for parents alongside state-of-the-art healthcare services such as patient entertainment systems, telemedicine and electronic medical records.
Lady Cilento acts as a central hub for state-wide paediatric services, and is the tertiary paediatric referral centre for the State of Queensland.
With 359 beds spanning 12 levels, 14 operating theatres, 73,000 square metres of clinical space and 11 rooftop gardens, this $1.5 billion project was not without its challenges.
The innovative tri-generation system within the hospital is designed to cut energy costs while improving efficiency, while day lighting, natural ventilation and water harvesting contribute to the hospital’s sustainability credentials.
AECOM provided all building engineering services for the project, including mechanical, electrical, communications, security, hydraulics and fire services. Our team considered various design options for Queensland Health, including a Whole of Life and Net Present Value analysis of major high voltage power and HVAC infrastructure.
The Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital was officially opened on 29 November 2014.
