AECOM was commissioned in 2011 by the Shire of Coorow to work on the Leeman Boat Launching Facility Project. As part of this project, AECOM offered detailed concept designs, tender drawings and specifications, and budget cost estimates to submit for funding approval.
The Leeman Boat Launching Facility includes parking for at least 50 cars and trailers, two ramps and a single jetty. The civil infrastructure and building design were also provided by AECOM. This required a multidisciplinary team effort which included:
- Quantity surveying
- Marine/coastal engineering
- Structural and civil engineering.
After completing the first stage the Shire of Coorow was successful in obtaining 100 percent of the requested funding for construction from the Department of Transport’s Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme and from the Royalties for Regions fund.
AECOM was then requested to undertake additional services to further develop the design and enable approvals from government regulatory bodies for construction to commence.
This included:
- Building design
- Services design of electrical, lighting and water supply
- Geotechnical investigations and engineering design
- Environmental impact assessment, management plan and approvals.
Upon completion of this further work, and receipt of government regulatory approvals, construction works were awarded and commenced in summer 2013. AECOM was also awarded the Superintendent’s role for supervision and management of the construction contract, in addition to providing engineering technical support.
The new boat-launching facility provided the shire with a $2.5 million, up-to-date site for launching boats, two ramps and a holding jetty for three vessels up to eight metres in length.
