A key European initiative is taking place to make major repairs and enhancement to the existing REBIS (Regional Balkans Infrastructure Study) core railway network in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project is funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB), and is crucial to providing the smooth and efficient movement of goods and passengers between Bosnia and Herzegovina, the South-East Europe countries and the European Union.
The work required was divided into the following main groups:
- Railway structures
- Electric traction facilities
- Overhead contact lines
- Telecommunication
We provided engineering design services on this project, which was prepared adhering to all normal standards and regulations applicable in-country, whilst also involving specific requests from the client and use of international standards and recommendations (e.g. UIC and EU Railway Interoperatibility).
The length of the section is 480km and the construction value is €90million. The project started in April 2008 and was successfully completed in July 2009.
