AECOM provided project and cost management services as well as extensive infrastructure, marine, building design and site supervision services on Reef Island in Bahrain, completed in 2010.
AECOM began work on Reef Island in November 2004, initially providing cost consultancy services. Our role evolved into a combined cost management and project management offer in 2006 due to the strength of our relationship with the client.
The island is developed by Lulu Tourism Company, an organisation established in 2002 as an equal joint venture between the Government of Bahrain and the Mouawad Group Inc. Reef Island is the first and only major development undertaken as a partnership between the public and private sectors in Bahrain.
The island is a high-end residential development built on 579,000 square meters of reclaimed land and designed to accommodate residential buildings, villas, parks, a beach resort, a hotel and spa, a shopping mall and a yacht club.
AECOM encourages a collaborative working relationship between the client, project team, local authorities and third parties. Our team acted as a unifying link for all stakeholders, working towards a common goal.
