The Shanghai International Finance Center is amongst the most iconic landmarks at the heart of the global city’s Lujiazui Financial District. The project consists of two tall buildings. One building is an 820-foot (250-meter) multifunction tower, with the upper part for the Ritz-Carlton hotel and the lower part for HSBC’s China Headquarters. The other building is an 853-foot (260-meter) tower containing Grade A offices, a retail podium, serviced apartments and four basement levels, as well as the Shanghai IFC Mall, which houses high-end retailers with Apple anchoring in the sunken amphitheater.
As the structural engineer for this complex project with super-high-rise towers, AECOM’s technical capability in meeting design challenges helped the client to achieve its plan and design intent within schedule and budget. AECOM was also the landscape designer of the complex’s open space.
