AECOM appoints Mel Sears as senior vice president and regional business leader of its transportation business in the Pacific region
PORTLAND, Ore. (April 11, 2018) — AECOM, a premier, fully integrated global infrastructure firm, announced today that Mel Sears, professional engineer (PE), project management professional (PMP), has been named senior vice president and regional business leader within its Design and Consulting Services’ transportation business covering the Pacific region. He will lead operations in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming and Northern California while collaborating with clients to deliver successful projects and programs, supporting legislative policies to improve transportation infrastructure and funding, and creating innovative approaches to growing the business.
Mr. Sears has more than 33 years of experience in organizational leadership, regional management, operations, business development, as well as project management experience on west coast transportation programs and projects in both the public and private sector. He has worked across various markets, including highways, arterials, transit, water and environmental.

Prior to joining AECOM, Mr. Sears served as senior vice president for an international engineering firm and has worked with clients such as Caltrans, TriMet, Washington State Department of Transportation, Oregon Department of Transportation and Sound Transit.
Mr. Sears is actively involved in professional organizations including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), Oregon Business Association and several civic organizations. In these organizations, he has served in various leadership capacities, including chapter president, on the board of directors as well as participated on various committees. Mr. Sears has been a keynote speaker at numerous conferences, presented at industry events, and his article, “The Business Engineer Role,” was published in ASCE’s Engineering Management periodical. Mr. Sears is a licensed professional engineer in California, Oregon and Washington.
