Elixir Energy (Elixir) is seeking to develop a ~10MW green hydrogen demonstration project in the Gobi region of Mongolia, known as Gobi H2. Elixir is working with Japan’s Terras Energy on the Gobi H2 project. Terras is owned 85% by Toyota Tsusho and 15% by SoftBank. The project will include renewable energy generation, battery storage, green hydrogen production, and offtake facilities. The project aims to supply green hydrogen to the adjacent, rapidly growing Chinese hydrogen market.
AECOM supported Elixir by conducting a pre-feasibility study to define and assess the project concept. AECOM’s services included renewable energy resource assessment, end-to-end concept design from renewable energy generation through to hydrogen production and offtake, levelised cost of hydrogen analysis (LCOH), cost estimation, and project planning. AECOM halved the initial LCOH for the concept through targeted concept optimisation and supported Elixir in defining the requirements for future study phases.
The pre-feasibility study provides Elixir with a key input to advance Gobi H2 to the next phase of the project development process. Elixir now plans to progress the project’s commercial aspects, including offtake discussions and project partnerships.
