Response times for emergency responders are often critical in determining the severity of injuries and numbers of casualties, particularly for emergencies involving commercial aircraft.
Our team modelled the station layout using LEGION micro-simulation modelling software. Taking into account reaction times, walking/running speeds, speeds for descending fire poles and delays associated with obstacles, three scenarios were modelled.
The models demonstrated the time it would take for six responders to reach their vehicles from various points in the fire station in worst, best and likely case scenarios. The following outputs were produced:
- Walk train isochrones showing entities in time periods
- Entity speed maps showing where delays occurred
- Journey time analysis
The design team were given the results and suggested mitigation measures, enabling the best layout to be derived within the project’s specific constraints before being presented to the end client.
