Today’s advanced design technologies, such as 3D software, are transforming how interior designers shape space. A workplace can embody both technological innovation and the culture of the company it represents.

Autodesk, the world’s leading 3D design software provider for the architecture, engineering and entertainment industries, established its Shanghai Office in the Pudong Lujiazui Software Park. In 2012, as the company expanded, it added two additional floors to accommodate 200 employees. Designed by AECOM, the office reflects Autodesk’s creative, high-tech culture while fostering a healthy, engaging and collaborative environment.

The design concept envisions a vibrant “mini-city.” Each department occupies its own quiet “street block,” while dynamic “street corners” and “plazas” of varying scales provide open spaces for cross-team interaction and social connection. Circulation is designed as an urban stroll, replacing mundane walks with engaging pathways past “roadside” cafes and park-style seating areas.

To encourage collaboration, the office incorporates Herman Miller’s high-performance workstation system, with120-degree desktops that facilitate interaction among team members.

Throughout the interior and MEP design process, AECOM utilized Autodesj’s own Revit and 3ds Max software, enabling efficient coordination among designers, clients and contractors to ensure timely project delivery. By embedding Autodesk’s technological strengths and cultural values into the spatial experience, the design makes innovation tangible and creates a workplace where leaders feel a sense of participation and employees feel a strong sense of belonging.
