Caterpillar, the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives, operates Caterpillar Shandong Engineering Machinery Co., Ltd. in Qingzhou, Shandong. This facility produces earthmoving equipment and components for the construction industry. To meet growing customer demand, the company launched an extension project in 2009 to expand the plant’s capacity with new utilities and workshop facilities. The project represented an investment of approximately US$90 million. AECOM served as project manager, providing a comprehensive range of management and consultancy services.
The expansion included eight new buildings: an axle and transmission workshop, a national distribution center, touch-up paint workshop, a truck-type tractor workshop, a wheel loader assembly workshop, a fabrication paint workshop, and a fabrication workshop. Together, these facilities added more than 140,000 square meters of building area.
