As China continues to build more high-rises and large commercial complexes, cities and developers are increasingly seeking sustainable solutions to “build better” while building higher.
With a gross floor area exceeding 190,000 square meters, the Beijing World Financial Center is strategically located at the intersection of two of the city’s major roads — the Third East Ring Road and Chaoyang Road — in the Central Business District. The development consists of twin towers with a centralized air-conditioning system, offering 24 stories of Grade A office space.
AECOM provided comprehensive environmental and sustainability consulting services for this landmark commercial complex. The project set an inspirational precedent for sustainable building design in China by achieving platinum ratings under both LEED and BEAM certifications. It is the world’s largest commercial development to receive a LEED Core and Shell Platinum rating, and, notably, the first project in China to achieve platinum certification under both BEAM and LEED.
In recognition of its outstanding achievements, the project received the Quality Building Award (QBA) 2010 in the “Project Outside Hong Kong” category. The QBA was founded by seven major building and construction associations in Hong Kong.
