This major development program to expand the capacity of Abu Dhabi International Airport is transforming it into a world-class facility that can accommodate the expected growth in passenger numbers over the next decade.
The program includes four additional airports across the emirate:
- Al Ain International Airport
- Al Bateen Executive Airport
- Sir Bani Yas Airport
- Delma Island Airport
The works incorporate a wide range of aviation facilities both airside and landside including civils and utilities, support buildings and also related commercial development zones comprising offices, hotels, industrial and retail.
AECOM has provided a number of services to date, including validating the cost (CAPEX and OPEX) and the associated schedule related to the entire program of works. Challenges included defining the composite scope of a rapidly changing mega-development program, identifying key project interdependencies and interim milestones and introducing new program-wide risk management tools.
This validation exercise was completed in September 2010. AECOM is continuing its engagement as the program progresses into the design and construction phases, by executing the following:
- Undertaking detailed cost estimating during design development;
- Establishing and managing new change management procedures;
- Managing the overall program capital expenditure budgets;
- Quantitative analysis risk management; and
- Critical path schedule management.
