Etihad Rail covers a network of up to 1,200 km stretching across the Emirates. The national rail system built over three stages will connect the UAE to Saudi Arabia via Ghweifat in the West and Oman via Al Ain in the East. The initial section will cater for freight, but the completed network will serve passengers. This nation-wide rail network will improve and diversify the economy and is an important step in providing access to markets for the UAE’s mineral resources.
The project will include dual tracks designed to accommodate trains moving at up to 200kph, 17 kms of tunnels and more than 400 structures including 231 bridges. There will be 13 passenger stations and 29 freight facility terminals.
AECOM in joint venture with Parsons International was selected to provide program management services to Etihad Rail on this important element of the UAE’s critical national infrastructure.
