On 17 November 2015, AECOM celebrated 50 years of doing business in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at a reception and dinner in Abu Dhabi. In addition to AECOM’s regional leadership, attendees included client representatives and senior industry leaders. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, and the U.S. Ambassador to the UAE, Barbara Leaf, also attended the celebration.
Guest of honor, The Right Honorable Sir John Major KG CH, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Chairman of the AECOM Global Advisory Board, provided the keynote speech. The Global Advisory Board Chairman reflected on his visits to the country over the years as well as AECOM’s contribution to the region. He closed by commending the UAE on rising to the challenge of building a modern and culturally diverse nation.
Guests were treated to an entertaining presentation by His Excellency Mohammad Abdul Jalil Al Fahim, author of From Rags to Riches, who used historical photos to guide guests through the UAE’s growth over the last 50 years.
“AECOM’s presence in the region has mirrored the country’s growth. Over the last 50 years we have become a trusted partner providing solutions and guidance that have supported the UAE’s transformation into one of the world’s most progressive nations,” comments David Barwell, chief executive, Middle East and India. “It was wonderful to celebrate our journey with our distinguished guests and clients.”
