The award recognises the individual who best exhibits the most outstanding performance, leadership and greatest contribution to advance infrastructure sustainability in Australia.
Since joining AECOM’s Perth team in 2008, Dr O’Mara, Associate Director – Sustainability and Climate Change, has been an active member of ISCA and the Australian Green Infrastructure Council (AGIC).
Currently AECOM’s Assessor for Gateway WA – Western Australia’s largest road project – and a Verifier for infrastructure projects seeking ratings, Dr O’Mara continues to coordinate and support local ISCA events in Western Australia, and is supporting the delivery of Infrastructure Sustainability Foundation training she helped to develop.
She also recently facilitated the inaugural Asian Regional Workshop in Korea, helping participants from several Asian countries share approaches to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
“I feel very honoured to have been nominated amongst such an esteemed group that includes people who have inspired me throughout my journey,” Dr O’Mara said upon receiving her award.
“Encouraging and developing infrastructure sustainably is important if we want to continue to pursue economic development while enhancing our society and preserving our natural environment.”
“For me it is rewarding to work on and hear about businesses and projects working towards this goal.”
AECOM Chief Executive – Australia New Zealand, Lara Poloni, said Dr O’Mara’s ISCA award reflected AECOM’s long-term commitment to embedding sustainability into all aspects of its work with clients.
“As a founding member of the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia, AECOM has been amongst leaders in embedding sustainability into major infrastructure projects for over 10 years,” she said.
“Katrina’s award is just recognition of her and her team’s tireless efforts to work with clients to pursue a whole-of-life approach to embedding sustainability principles within infrastructure projects,” she said.
“The implementation of performance indicators for sustainability guides our Sustainability Policy as we provide sustainable solutions for our clients and communities in creative and innovative ways.”
AECOM was also nominated for the Organisational Leadership in Infrastructure Sustainability Award, won by Main Roads WA, with whom AECOM is working on the Gateway WA project.
