Anant Prakash
Group Director — Energy, New Zealand

I lead AECOM’s Energy business in New Zealand. I strive to be authentic in all that I do, and aim to provide positive outcomes for members of my team and clients alike.

Electricity and energy has held a life-long fascination for me. My childhood in Fiji gave me a first-hand perspective on the value that electricity has in people’s lives. I saw what life was like for members of my extended family who didn’t have electricity — and then witnessed the transformation that gaining access to power could have on their lives. I understand the impact energy can have on whole communities, even countries.

My team has minimal turnover, and that’s the result of a concerted effort to connect with people and to support our staff in achieving their goals. Our global reach coupled with the great talent we have in our business means we can access some really exciting and challenging projects. This diversity provides a strong platform for growth for our people and this is one of most rewarding aspects of my job.

I appreciate being able to focus on both the technical side of things and the big picture. I thoroughly enjoy getting involved in technically challenging projects that stretch my traditional thinking and expand my knowledge base.

Equally, I love going through the whole process of negotiation and delivery on a big project that really hits the mark for clients. There’s a certain amount of hunger required to be able to seek out these opportunities and make sure that we’re delivering results that produce tangible outcomes.

Being involved in a diverse range of projects in the power sector in New Zealand and internationally continues to provide fresh perspective on the interdependencies of the relationships between clients, consultants and contractors and successful project outcomes that benefit the relevant stakeholders.
