Sarah Woodward
Graduate Transportation Engineer, Auckland

I feel that AECOM gives me the ability to grow my career in whichever direction I choose to turn and I am excited to see where this journey takes me!

I graduated from Auckland University at the end of 2015 and began my career as one of the 18 Auckland graduates employed by AECOM in 2016.

As a student I had two internships, one of which was as a site engineer at the a large tunnel project which took place in Auckland. There’s something truly incredible about being a part of these iconic infrastructure projects, no matter how big or small that part may have been. It was this work that cemented my passion for civil infrastructure and led to me pursue a career in the infrastructure field. I decided to join AECOM after seeing the wide range of infrastructure projects, both large and small, that they routinely work on. Since beginning with the company, I have had the privilege of working on projects in New Zealand and Australia, including the Traffic Impact Assessment for a project in Sydney.

AECOM is always seeking to open up opportunities for its employees and this is something that I have benefited from greatly. I showed a keen interest in project management and within nine months of joining the company I was lucky enough to be offered a position as deputy design manager on a multi-million dollar road project in Northland. This position has seen me working with a range of disciplines and co-ordinating their respective needs and deadlines to meet the clients’ deliverables.

One of the highlights of working for a global company has been the travel that I have been able to do as part of my job. In the past 18 months, AECOM has enabled me to travel from Auckland to Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and the Gold Coast. Sometimes the travel has been for project work, but other times it was for conferences, training courses or as a prize for winning an internal competition.
