To meet increasing travel demand, AECOM is part of the consortium delivering the winning design for Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Terminal 3 in Indonesia.

Indonesia Airport Authority (PT AP II) anticipates that Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Terminal 3 will handle 25 million passengers per year in 2016. The expansion project will include a main terminal building, roads and multi-storey car park. AECOM was invited to participate in the bid for this prestigious project through an international design competition in 2012 and was part of the winning consortium led by PT Wijaya Karya Tbk (WIKA) / Indulexco.

AECOM’s regional team includes professionals from the Singapore building engineering team which is providing mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) advisory and design review services for the Indonesia team to enable establishment of detailed engineering.

Aside from the MEP service, AECOM also offers thermal comfort simulations, fire engineering services and smoke control/egress provisions which are critical to the airport’s operation.

The main challenges of the project include long-span steel structures, coordination with specialized airport services and working within the vicinity of live airport airside and landside operations and facilities.  AECOM has also recommended common services tunnel (CST) and subsequent services coordination, as well as provided advice for the entire project in order to enhance distribution efficiency of utility services.
